Cáncer de piel

Resumen

What is Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer that occurs in the United States. There are several different types of skin cancer including the basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), melanoma (sometimes called malignant melanoma), lymphoma (sometimes called cutaneous lymphoma) and more. The part of the skin the cancer starts in determines the type of skin cancer. Treatment options may include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, targeted drug therapy and immunotherapy. Some of these medications can be put on the skin while others may be injected, infused or taken by mouth.1

How common is Skin Cancer

BCC is the single most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States, accounting for over 4 million cancer cases per year. SCC is the second most commonly diagnosed type of skin cancer. Melanoma is less common than BCC or SCC, with approximately 97.610 new cases estimated for 2023.2 3
