Qué es el mieloma

Multiple myeloma, or simply myeloma, is caused by uncontrolled growth of a type of cell called a plasma cell. Depending on how severe the disease is, multiple myeloma can be referred to as smoldering multiple myeloma or active multiple myeloma. Treatment options may include radiation, chemotherapy, targeted drug therapy, immunotherapy and stem cell or bone marrow transplant. Many patients with smoldering multiple myeloma do not require treatment but patients who do need treatment are often treated similar to patients with active multiple myeloma.1
